Podbielski Contemporary Gallery è lieta di presentare Pleasure Garden, un progetto a cura di André Podbielski che rimette a fuoco l’occhio del fotografo sul nudo. Pleasure Garden è un giardino del piacere. L’universo di immagini raccolto nella mostra diventa un luogo di seduzione e di percezione tattile, di storie sussurrate e al contempo nascoste. Il filo conduttore è la parola latina Voluptas: divinità nata dall’unione di Amore e Psiche, la cui storia è narrata nelle Metamorfosi di Apuleio, voluttà indica quel godimento dei sensi inestricabilmente congiunto alla soddisfazione dell’anima. Il nudo è stato un soggetto imprescindibile della fotografia fin dalle origini, e ha ispirato alcuni tra i più grandi maestri dell’obiettivo. Nomi come Brassai, Erwin Blumenfeld, Bill Brandt, Lucien Clergue, Horst P. Horst, André Kertesz, Robert Mapplethorpe, Carlo Mollino, Nadar, Helmut Newton, Man Ray, Jean Louis Sieff, Edward Weston e, riscoperti soltanto di recente, i meravigliosi inediti di Saul Leiter, sono stati tutti compagni di viaggio del curatore e fonte d’ispirazione per la mostra. Ad aprire il percorso sarà un’immagine iconica di Erwin Blumenfeld, che assieme a Man Ray e André Kertesz, fu un grande protagonista nella ricerca dell’espressione formale del nudo. Il percorso espositivo prosegue con tre importanti protagonisti della fotografia del ‘900: René Groebli, con un omaggio alla moglie ritratta durante il viaggio di nozze a Parigi nei primi anni ’50; Ferdiando Scianna, che ritrae per Dolce Gabbana la modella icona Marpessa Hennink; Enzo Obiso, fotografo di lunga esperienza che, a partire dal 1993, porta avanti la sua ricerca personale focalizzata sul nudo femminile. Questi grandi maestri saranno affiancati da protagonisti dell’oggi: Giulia Agostini, Debora Barnaba, Philippe Blache, Erica Campanella, Bruno Cattani, Margherita Chiarva, Francesca Galliani, Michael von Graffenried, Gail Albert Halaban, Bo Ljugblom, Ohad Matalon, Peter Puklus, Benyamin Reich, Noga Shtainer, Lady Tarin, Andrea Vierucci, Milena Villalon.

Podbielski Contemporary Gallery is delighted to present Pleasure Garden, a project curated by Pierre André Podbielski to re-focus the eye of the photographer on the artistic Nude. Pleasure Garden is a garden of delights. The universe of images in the show becomes a place of seduction and tactile perception, a place where stories are whispered and yet simultaneously hidden. The thread running through the show is captured in the Latin word Voluptas; the delight of the soul is the sweet emotion of the body. In Ovid’s Metamorphosis, Voluptas is the daughter of Eros and Psyche. Since 1839, with the birth of photography, the Nude has played a central role in it, and names like Brassai, Erwin Blumenfeld, Bill Brandt, Lucien Clergue, Horst P. Horst, Andreé Kertesz, Robert Mapplethorpe, Carlo Mollino, Nadar, Helmut Newton, Man Ray, Jean Lous Sieff, Edward Weston, and the only recently rediscovered works of Saul Leiter, have been fellow travellers of the gallery and source of inspiration in curating this exhibition. To open the show, there is a marvellous and iconic image by Erwin Blumenfeld, who, together with Man Ray and Andrè Kertesz, was a great innovator in researching the formal expression of the Nude. This universe of seduction continues with three twentieth-century masters of photography: Rene Groebli, with a tribute to his wife who he photographed during their honeymoon in Paris in the Fifties; Ferdinando Scianna, with some images of the iconic model, Marpessa, taken for Dolce e Gabbana; Enzo Obiso, long-time photographer who, starting in 1993, carries on his personal research focused on the female nude.
