Pad. 26 Stand B/91
The Galleria Rubin was founded in 1997 by James Rubin and Christian Marinotti in via Marco de Marchi in Milan. It was initially named Galleria Lawrence Rubin, after James’s father, who was a dealer in New York for forty years. The program reflected its ties with the New York art scene: in the first years, the gallery staged shows of Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, Eric Fischl, Donald Sultan, Richard Diebenkorn, Howard Hodgkin and Anthony Caro. Starting in 2003, the present director, James, drifted to a new course based on figurative painting and sculpture. At first the artists belonged to the so called “Nuova Figurazione”: Giovanni Frangi, Alessandro Papetti, Luca Pignatelli. In the following years, new talents were discovered and launched, like Massimo Giannoni, Tommaso Ottieri, Letizia Fornasieri and Gehard Demetz, while other artists were invited from abroad to show in Italy for the first time, Stefan Kuerten, Stefan Hoenerloh, Lars Teichmann.
