The Antigallery art gallery opened in Mestre in 2007 with the aim of being a cornerstone for contemporary art on the Venetian mainland. Situated in the pedestrian area of the city centre, under the direction of Massimo de Luca it has indeed become a reference point for collectors and artists. In fact, Antigallery’s activity has mainly been centred on two particular movements: Dialettica delle Tendenze – a group started up in Venice in 1965, and that was a brief yet significant moment in the context of the great rediscovery of Kinetic and Programmed Art from the 1960s – and Verifica 8 + 1, an experimental group for the arts that was completely self-governed and based on the aims of the earlier movement; it was active in and around Mestre from 1978 to 2008 and was composed of Sara Campesan, Aldo Boschin, Franco Costalonga, Nadia Costantini, Maria Teresa Onofri, Nino Ovan, Mariapia Fanna Roncoroni, and Rolando Strati; it was coordinated by Sofia Gobbo.
