Artopia Gallery was inaugurated in February 2001 by the show In punta di piedi (On Tiptoes) by Marzia Migliora, curated by Emanuela De Cecco. The gallery's activity focuses on promoting emerging and mid-career Italian and international artists through a program of exhibitions, primarily consisting of site-specific and curatorial projects. The goal is to offer a critical and innovative interpretation of contemporary issues through experimentation with various media and practices, including cinema, digital media, performance, and design. In the fall of 2023, the gallery relocated itself within the courtyard of the same building that had hosted it for over twenty years. The new space, a late 19th-century workshop in the heart of Milan, was designed by Martinelli Venezia Studio. Since the summer of 2022, Artopia has been organizing NUCRÉ, sponsored by the Puglia Region: a contemporary art festival aimed at enhancing the cultural and anthropological heritage of the Puglia area.
