The Antigallery art gallery opened in Mestre in 2007 with the aim of being a reference point for contemporary art on the Venetian mainland. Situated in the pedestrian area of the city centre, under the direction of Massimo de Luca it has indeed become a reference point for collectors and artists, and has been greatly appreciated by the people of Mestre. From the very start it has organised numerous shows by artists belonging to Viennese Actionism, the Gutai group, Arte Povera, and Conceptual Art; in recent years it has concentrated its activity on Italian experimental research from the 1960s and 1970s, and has exhibited artists who have worked in the area of Kinetic, Programmed, and Optical Art, with particular attention paid to the territory.
