Currently consisting of over a thousand museum-sized works, the Righi collection, one of Italy’s most important private collections of contemporary art, is active in the public and community sphere. For over thirty years, it has supported both the work of artists (and of galleries) as well as the demands of public institutions.
It has formed collaborations with Museion in Bolzano (which has a warehouse of works from the collection) as well as the co-production of projects included in international exhibitions such as the Venice Biennial of Art and documenta. The collection has also been exhibited in museums such as the Collection Lambert in Avignon, Museion in Bolzano, Castello di Rivoli in Turin, Grand Palais in Paris, and Palazzo Fortuny in Venice.
The aim of the Righi Collection Award is to acquire a work at Arte Fiera that will be added to the collections of MAMbo - Museo d’arte moderna e contemporanea di Bologna, with specific focus on the work of recent generations of Italian artists.
Jury:
Winning artist: Massimo Grimaldi
Title of work: Translucent Island, 2023, projection on double screen, slideshow, 200x500x60cm, sole example
Winning gallery: ZERO… (Hall 25 Stand B/3)
Motivation: Massimo Grimaldi’s work merges a study on the use of artificial intelligence as a creative method (using a display that is both original and highly recognisable in his recent work) and a very contemporary reflection on images of bodies. The winning work, to be created by the artist, is a museum re-elaboration of the work Iridescent Island, 2022 presented by Galleria Zero… at Arte Fiera.
