From the seventeenth-century research of Galileo and Maria Clara Eimmart to the works of Johann Carl Loth, Giuseppe Antonio Petrini and Antonio Canova, through the nocturnes of artists such as Victor Hugo, Marc Chagall, Jackson Pollock and Joseph Cornell, to the contemporary cosmic visions of Vija Celmins and Thomas Ruff, this volume brings together over one hundred works from prestigious European institutions and the GAM collections.
Produced to accompany the exhibition of the same name running from October 2025 to March 2026 at the GAM in Turin - curated by Fabio Cafagna and Elena Volpato - NOTTI. Five Centuries of Stars, Dreams and Full Moons explores the night as a space for technical experimentation, scientific reflection and poetic introspection from the early 17th century to the present day, inviting us to reflect on the fascination of the night as a place of ambiguity, mystery and discovery, in a constant dialogue between rationality and sentiment, science and visionary thinking.
